OCTOBER 2002  -  THE NEW AWNING AND CONCRETE PAVING

When we opened the Rhumbelow in 2001, the arrangement was that the MOTHWA ladies would

do the catering. One would queue up to collect your food at the kitchen door.(no waiters I am afraid)

It was just the way we did it,  a nicely friendly affair.

I remember a man one night saying to me “ this is like coming to a wedding and not quite knowing everybody”

If you know our venue you will know that the walk area between the bar, the kitchen and the hall, whilst not far,

seems far when you are carrying food or a tray of drinks. Well we survived for some 12 months or so doing just that.

When we had perfect skies it was fine and you never ended up with food that was laced with the evening rain water.

On the other hand, when the rain came down it was a definite dash and hope that your drink and or your food

did not get drenched.

It was suddenly a priority to extend the awning. Whilst the old one stuck out a meter, it was totally inadequate

when the heavens opened. We had by this stage raised enough money to begin and so the Moth work party arrived

and Lofty, Terry, Rob and the guys started.

Half way through building, funny how things always are, picture, lots of sand, building in process, a show

on this particular weekend, and the heavens opened with one of the worst rain storms Durban has seen in a while.

There was mud every where, in the pub, in the toilets and inside the hall.

Well the rest as they say as history. See the before, during and after pics.
