London Calling featuring Carole
Trench, Evan Roberts and Anthony Stonier is a delightful musical nostalgia
touching on all that is English from the times of Dragons and King Arthur,
passing Henry VIII, the vaudeville era, the World Wars and post war Britain up
to the present day.
This Herculean task is achieved by highlighting specific eras and
leaping whole dark ages in between!
London Calling is witty, warm
and features such popular numbers as “Where are the Simple Joys of Maidenhood”,
“Greensleeves”, “Mad Dogs and
Englishman”, “We’ll Meet Again”, “Hard Day’s Night”, “Don’t go Breaking My
Heart”, “Goldfinger”, “Memory” and many more.
London Calling concludes with
an English pub style sing-a-long.
The cast is the same trio that brought Durban the Royal Backstage
sell-out hit “Let’s Misbehave”
earlier this year.

THE PERFORMERS
EVAN ROBERTS
Born and raised in Durban, Evan has played since the age of
five. He has performed in many countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai,
Australia and Britain. He worked at Sun city for two years and was a member of
“Rush Hour”, a popular Johannesburg band.
On the local front, Evan was responsible for the musical
direction of ELTON as well as being its co-producer. Producing and arranging
music for several other successful productions, as well as for various cruise
liners, both local and international, have kept him busy over the years.
ANTHONY STONIER
Although popularly known in Durban as a “drag icon” (with
legs to die for!) Stonier has in fact had a far more varied career. Over the past decade he has appeared in the
award-winning Frank ‘n’ Stein, Winnie The
Pooh, numerous Cellar pantomimes, Piaf,
Brel, Aznavour and Down to Eartha to name only the highlights. He has been the musical director and
composer for local productions of: Rainbow,
Romeo & Juliet, Peter Pan and The Dream, amongst others.
He spent most of 2000 in Abu Dhabi’s Crown Plaza Hotel
playing in a piano lounge.
CAROL TRENCH
Trench began her career in performance working on the Royal
Star Cruise Liner as a female vocalist.
She performed in the touring production of Alladin, later returning to the cast as Jasmine at the Baxter
Theatre in Cape Town. She played in Sleeping
Beauty at The Playhouse Cellar as well as singing in Piaf, Brel, Aznavour. She
was Ophelia in Jack & The Big Stalk
and the Fairy Godmother in the Port Elizabeth Broadwalk Casino season of Sinderella. The year 2000 saw Trench in
Abu Dhabi’s Crown Plaza Hotel with Anthony Stonier in an 8 month piano lounge
season. She returned there for 2 months this year with Trevor Harper as the
pianist. She is been appearing at
Beanbag Bohemia with Evan Roberts performing jazz standards with a twist.
