The marvellous
Rory Rootenberg returns with his brand new package of
music and comedy – REFLECTIONS –
which follows on from highly acclaimed CADENZA
trilogy.
REFLECTIONS is a
study of contrasts using the unique and highly acclaimed gifts of Rory Rootenberg, winner of seven Vita Theatre awards. It shows
how different languages and different music often say the same things. All this with Rory’s usual humour, charm and thrilling dynamics.
It is scripted
and directed by Ian von Memerty and Rory is
accompanied by Tony Bental or Dawid
Boverhoff on piano. It covers music from Jacques Brel through to Dvorak, from Jewish traditional songs to
Abba. This delightful musical journey with Rory Rootenberg whose infectious stage personality and vocal
range has garnered such press reaction as “Vocal Tour de Force”-Paul Boekkooi.
In REFLECTIONS, the focus is Rory’s
sublime singing voice. He has done away with much of the banter and frenetic
comic activity, this time presenting an electric repertoire of carefully chosen
songs all given their own feel with Rory’s phenomenal voice under von Memerty’s masterful direction. Rootenberg
describes it as a “stripping down to nothing” version compared with the wigs
and costumes he used in his previous shows. “We wanted the audience to see me
with no other props and to shift the focus from the spectacle to the content.
The music, singing, and choice of songs is
particularly important this time around”.
REFLECTIONS promises to be the next
exciting step in the burgeoning career of someone who is fast becoming a cult
figure.
