Godfrey Johnson performs a show in the spirit of Noel Coward

Fleur de Cap winner, Godfrey Johnson brings to life the spirit = of Noel Coward in the one-person cabaret, Flirting = with Coward. The genius wit of this writer and composer of the 20th century is showcased by one of Cape Town<= /st1:place>’s most moving musical performers.

 

He carried himself with style and sophistication in a time when= the standards were higher. Witty and debonair, he was the centre of attention, charming his friends with his musical genius and satirical wit. He was the = very image of the elegant gentleman in a smoking jacket with a cigarette holder.= Noel Coward. Join Godfrey Johnson to discover the spir= it of this iconic performer, who can hold you in his palm with his illuminating w= it and irresistible musical charm.

 

After having worked for many years as a musician, director, composer and having accompanied Pieter-Dirk Uys, Godfrey Johnson won the 2007 Fleur du Cap award for Best Performance in a Cabaret for his work in Kissed by Brel. He now = brings his signature style of music to reinterpret the songs of one of the last century’s most satirical and visionary entertainers. Noel Coward, kno= wn for being the musical and witty host, comes alive between the notes, chords, and words sung by this Cape To= wn performer. Johnson will perform his own versions of such Coward classics as Mad Dogs and Englishmen, 20th Century Blues, Mad about t= he Boy, and If Love were All. More than a tribute, this show honours the spirit of Coward in the 21st century.

 

Following the success of Behind Every Man, a cabaret honouring women song writers, Johnson premieres Flirting with Coward as his second collaboration with Bosnian born director, Sanjin Muftić. Muftić’s= previous Yawazzi productions, Under the Stars, Above the Tree and The Life and Work of Pet= rovic Petar have both received passionate critical ac= claim. The show is also beautifully designed by Jon Keevy, also of Yawazzi, who has written Under the Star= s, Above the Tree.
