Ten years ago, this month, a sm= all MOTH Hall in the centre of Umbilo, underwent a most unlikely metamorphosis. The merging of visionary Roland Stansell, a troupe of local drag artists and a group of MO= TH stalwarts resulted in the beginning of what we now recognise as one of Durban’s mo= st cosy and colour-filled theatre experiences.

From this rustic start, a vibra= nt community theatre was born and a decade later it would seem that some of South Africa’s top performers have appeared on this stage & has been reborn into one of Durban’s most= cosiest and colourful theatre experiences.

To celebrate this anniversary, a fe= stival of 10 local individual performances will be mounted starring ten of the most popular performers who have been closely associated with the venue over the years.

They will each be performing highlights from their various shows over the years and each have been asked= to include at least one amusing incident/anecdote that they remember happening to th= em at the Rhumbelow Theatre.

Getting My Act Together - Anthony Stonier

A one-man musical revue show featuring Anthony Stonier, looking back over the past ten years at some of the many shows he has appeared in at the Rhumbelow Theatre. These include: “Let’s Misbehave!”, “Brutal Tunes”, “Oh Boy! Bassey!”, “D&ea= cute;jà vu”, “Down to Eartha”, “= ;Amen!”, “A Woman of Substance”, “Noel and Cole” and “= Love Actually”. Amusing anecdotes and popular songs from these (and other!) shows seen at this venue abound in this lively retrospective! It wi= ll be alright on the night?! Wait and see!!!!!

An Afternoon of Magic with SA M= agic Society

Adi Paxton aka Cherry the Magical Clown and magician, Peter Warby will pool their talents to present a Special Kids Magic Fun Show for young audiences on behalf of T= he SA Magical Society and the Magic Lodge of SA - of which they are both executive members. They aim to include audiences of all ages in a Fun magical experience with a little laughter in= the mix they've cooked up a funtastic show.... They both appeared in SAMS previous shows at the Rhumbelow in 2003 and 2008 and will also be part of the entertainment team in SAMS Magical Mystery Evening - aimed at family Audien= ces on in Aug 2011. =

An Afternoon with Classical Pia= nist Andrew Warburton

Acclaimed South African pianist Andrew Warburton, presently resident accompanist and vocal coach at the opera studio a= nd choral academy at UKZN will perform a selecti= on of immortal light classics, perfect for easy listening on a Sunday afternoon. = He will also regale you with amusing anecdotes of his long and varied career in the music industry. Andrew has been any many shows at Rhumbelow, including “Out In The Midday Sun”, “Brut= al Tunes” to name a few.

An Evening = With Marion Loudon & Lloyd De Gier

Over the past few years Marion Loudon has performed in 6 different shows at the Rhumbelow Theatre, from the all-female Latino Ladies & Girls Behaving Badly, the camp gay Icons tributes in A Touch of Pink & Tickled Pink to= the Western themed Kicking it Country and last year’s Rocking it Gently. Marion has chosen= her favourite tunes from all these shows to perform, to ensure there is somethi= ng for everyone from Shania Twain to Madonna, the Sound Of Music to Fleetwood Mac. Along for the ride is Ll= oyd De Gier who performed alongside her in Rocking It = Gently and will be on hand to add some guitar parts and vocals.<= /p>

Brace yourself. She’s wild, she’s whacky, she’s wonderful ̷= 0; The delectable Lisa Bobbert unleashes her zany = zoo of loopy alter egos in her new show, Bobbertlicious. Chantal, Charmaine, Delphine= and even Tina Turner are just some of Bobbert’s line-up of larger-than-life lasses who feature in this not-to-be-missed eve= ning of live entertainment. The unstoppable Ms Bobbert herself even gets a show in, with some songs she’s always wanted to s= ing – but no-one would allow her to do. Seen in many shows at Rhumbelow including “Convent Girls”, “Brutal Tunes”, “<= span class=3DSpellE>Bobbert Uncut” to name a few.

Bosman<= /b> …& then some!= - Barbie Meyer

Meyer has put together a collage of Bosman's favourite stories and a smidge of his lesser known writings. Expect to laugh out in places as well as chuckle when you realise just how relevant these typicall= y South African stories are in today's world - as they were when they were written. Barbie also gives a taste of Bosman's poetry an= d as always an insight into the extraordinary and complex man himself: Herman Charles Bosman. Barbie has been a regular performer of Bosman at Rhumbelow over the years.
